Eligibility Requirements

Some parts of this process are derived from the .COOP verification process.

Requirements for workplaces

Only organizations that consistently operate in accordance with the International 7 Cooperative Principles and meet our eligibility criteria can create a workplace account on apply.coop.

The definition of a cooperative varies by legal jurisdiction and culture. For the purposes of creating an account on apply.coop, we use the following items as proof of eligibility for cooperatives.

For established organizations:

For organizations that are still in formation:

Requirements for Nonprofits and Public Benefit Corporations (PBCs)

Non-profits and PBCs must align with apply.coop's values, such as democracy, equality, and economic solidarity. They should focus on areas like community development, collective bargaining, social justice, or environmental sustainability.

Required Documentation:

For non-profits and PBCs in formation, draft governance documents or incorporation papers indicating intent are acceptable.

Verification Process

If an organization (the “applicant”) has a .coop domain, they can create an account without verification by entering a valid .coop email address in the form at apply.coop/account. They will receive an email at that address with a temporary sign-in URL.

If an applicant does not have a .coop domain, they must send an email to crew@apply.coop containing their proof of eligibility documentation. If verified, the applicant will receive a confirmation email, and their domain will be added to our system, allowing them to create an account at apply.coop/account. If not verified, they will be notified and can appeal by replying to the email.

If the applicant does not respond to apply.coop initially, they will get a follow-up email within 30 days to provide the necessary information. If there is no response within this period, the request will be considered abandoned.
